Omron Electronics‘ AOI specialist Duncan Nicol is the only active European member of the IPC 7–32 Automated Inspection Technologies subcommittee (the US-based organization is mainly comprised of associates from equipment suppliers and users). Its goal is to help to effectively implement automated inspection equipment, and is tasked with driving two initiatives: the equipment evaluation criteria project will create the next revision of the IPC AI 641A, and the test-vehicle project aims to directly measure the IPC 610 solder joint acceptability by AOI machines.
