NDT customers benefit from acquisition

GE Inspection Technologies has signed a definitive agreement to acquire phoenix x-ray, a leader in high-resolution computed tomography (CT) / X-ray technology used in non-destructive testing (NDT) applications. The transaction, terms of which are not being disclosed, will be completed upon receipt of regulatory approvals. The acquisition will broaden GE’s offerings for NDT customers in various industries, including aerospace, power generation, oil & gas and automotive, by adding phoenix x-ray’s innovative 3D CT, micro- and nano-technology systems to GE Inspection Technologies’ current X-Ray and non-destructive testing portfolio. In addition, phoenix x-ray’s customers in both the industrial and microelectronics segment will benefit from GE’s global presence, technology depth and broad range of NDT products, systems and services. “phoenix x-ray has a strong reputation in the non-destructive testing world and is a highly complementary addition to GE Inspection Technologies’ X-ray product line,” said Caroline Reda, President & CEO of GE Inspection Technologies. “The acquisition will enhance GE’s technology capabilities in X-ray testing machines, add CT capability to the product line and is consistent with our mission to provide customers with a broad portfolio of high-tech and valuable non-destructive testing solutions.”

“GE is one of the leading suppliers of inspection technology in the world”, said Helmut Appelt, CEO of phoenix x-ray. “Especially through its global distribution network this partner will allow us to grow the business even further.”
