Companies involved in the Romanian and Bulgarian SMT industry came together at a technology conference held by DEK in Romania (Poiana Brasov). The aim of the meeting was to establish a communication platform, and provide opportunities for participants to receive information on industry issues and latest technologies. Surface-mount technology is growing fast in this region, and the medium and long-term predictions seem optimistic. Production costs in neighboring countries are rising, while China cannot always offer the best quality-cost ratio, making the area an attractive prospect. The conference started with a brief introduction of DEK’s activities in Gyor, Hungary, which covers the countries in Eastern Central. The staff from Hungary, Romania and the Czech Republic is supporting customers throughout the area. Laser-cut stencil manufacturing is a major activity, and DEK has reportedly become the key provider in Eastern and Central Europe during the last years. The most heated debate took place around lead-free technology. The conference was the first of its type ever organized in Romania.
