Solutions for all levels of engine and generator control
Invest in SMT equipment

Deep Sea Electronics (DSE), a specialist designer, manufacturer and supplier of electronic control modules and monitoring systems for Diesel & Gas Generating sets, was established in 1975 by its current owner Eddie Sheader, to develop and manufacture a range of underwater communications products for deep sea divers. The latest new SMT line and the original Juki machines have now found home in the new production area of the company.

DSE has more then 35 years experience within the generator control industry and has been delivering ground breaking technology to its customers since 1975.
One step after the other
More recently the company has begun manufacturing and supplying power supplies and battery chargers for use across multiple industries and LED lighting products for the commercial lighting sector. Based in the heart of North Yorkshire, the UK operation is supported by offices in North America and India as well as an extensive network of sales and support staff all over the world.
In the early 80’s, DSE was joined by Stan Archer, whose company made control panels for the power generation market, and this influenced the development team to produce their first speed switching system for the power generation industry. By the mid 80’s the company had developed the first one solution “Black Box” control module, which was ahead of its time and led the market with it’s advanced technology. Being new to the industry, it took a while for the products to be accepted, but by the mid 90s they had established major contracts with Aggreko, manufacturer and global supplier of power generators for the rental market, and major engine manufacturer, Cummins. By this time the product range had become widely accepted around the world for its quality products, reliability, and user-friendly functionality.
By the late 90’s the company moved premises and made major investment in new machinery and production techniques to keep up with increased global demand. This investment programme included the purchase of their first full automated Surface Mount assembly equipment. The new success and growth in business saw the company investing in more SMT assembly and associated equipment.
By the year 2000, the company had carried out major rebranding of the product range and launched a new logo and style. With this came even greater success.
Technologically advanced products
The Brand has established a world-wide reputation for providing outstanding quality products that are packed with features and benefits for both the installer and the end user. The design processes ensure all products are simple to configure and operate which is something the market instantly associates with a control solution of the company.
“DSEs production, and in particular the requirement for evermore demanding electronic circuitry to be assembled, led the need to consider the capability of some of our existing equipment, and to consider other potential suppliers of the electronic assembly equipment.” said the Manufacturing Director Mark Dresser. “Higher placement speeds and throughput was required to meet the growing business, in particular new business and revenue streams that were to be achieved by being one of the world’s most successful suppliers of our systems.”
Mark continues: “We looked at our current equipment and hi-lighted some weaknesses, and saw that there was a requirement for greater through-put, but this alone was not sufficient for us to just change suppliers. Due to our geographical location in North Yorkshire, we had to consider not only who could supply us with the right equipment for our needs, but equally important was to have a supplier that could offer reliable equipment with technical back up if required.”
The focus concentrates on suppliers
Juki Automation Systems was just one of a number of potential suppliers. Their long standing reputation & history for supplying with and to the highest quality and reliability was on the surface an obvious choice. However to change suppler, when you have invested heavily over the preceding years, is not something to be taken lightly. DSE contacted the supplier, and it was recognised that Juki could fulfil the requirements. DSE made an initial investment based upon an evaluation, which proved to be very successful, and after 3 months a second module was purchased.
These two modules have proved to have been faultless during this period. So much so, and that with Deeps Sea’s business continuing to grow, the company has found the need to invest in another Juki SMT Line. An FX3, the high speed and flagship placer and a KE2080 was purchased.
The latest new SMT line and the original Juki machines have now found home in the new production area of the company. In January 2011 DSE invested in a second FX3, “a further testament to our beliefs in Juki Automation Systems being one of our strategic partners, and in helping DSE continue to be the world’s number one supplier of control systems to the power generation market.”
