With high-profile exhibitors from the industry showcasing their latest developments, SMTconnect, which will take place from 10-12 May in Nuremberg, Germany, offers an exciting program for visitors and provides an opportunity for the industry to connect, create and drive technology.
The fair, which was cancelled in 2021 and held digitally in 2020, brings together people and technologies from the development, production, services, and the applications of microelectronic assemblies and systems to share developments and exchange ideas.
The finger on the pulse
The 2022 fair will host an array of prominent exhibitors including Asys Automatisierungssysteme GmbH, FUJI Europe Corporation GmbH, Koh Young Europe GmbH, OMRON Europe BV Inspection Systems Division Europe, Panasonic Connect Europe GmbH, smartTec GmbH, SMT Maschinen- und Vertriebs GmbH & Co. KG, and YAMAHA Motor Europe N.V.
Forum
This year’s fair will once again include a conference programme of diverse and expertly-devised discussions, product demonstrations, and company presentations known as the ‘Forum’. In addition, it will feature the IPC hand soldering competition; a special interest area for companies dealing with PCB components and materials known as ‘PCB meets Components’; and the EMS Park, a special showcase area for contract manufacturers and full-service providers designed to provide relaxed but efficient networking opportunities.
Fraunhofer Institute presents…
Further highlights will include the Fraunhofer Institute for Reliability and Microintegration IZM which will showcase its highly anticipated updated production line. The focus topic this year is “Trustworthy electronics – digital twin: sense or nonsense.” The sessions will feature live production demonstrations with accompanying commentary and will take place daily at 10am, 1pm and 3pm.
IPC hand soldering contest
Following a two year break, the event will also play host to the eagerly-awaited hand soldering competition run by electronics trade association IPC. Soldering professionals will have the opportunity to demonstrate their skills on all three days of the exhibition. They will compete against one other – undertaking the manual soldering of complex circuit boards and will be judged on their speed and precision. The winner of the competition will receive a cash prize as well as the chance to attend the Championships held later this year in Munich, Germany.
VDMA market forecast
As ever, VDMA will present its market forecast for electronic mechanical engineering. Participants can look forward to hearing all the latest from Volker Pape, Viscom AG (Chairman of the Department Productronic) and Dr. Sandra Engle, VDMA Productronic. The press conference will take place from 11am -12pm, NCC East, Level 3, Room Shanghai.
The place to be
All those attending the SMTconnect can look forward to a return to normality. Covid-19 restrictions have been lifted, allowing for a normal trade fair experience, although the event organiser Mesago Messe Frankfurt recommends wearing FFP2 masks indoors.
