KOA expands its series of pulse proof flat chip resistors, SG 73 P and SG 73 S, with the size 0603. Due to its improved trimming this resistor series can withstand up to 10 times higher pulses and surge currents compared to standard flat chip resistors. In the size 1206 the SG 73 P series can compete with the pulse stability of Mini-MELF resistors and even fit on the same land pattern. The SG 73 S is reportedly ideal in applications with ESD voltages or nanosecond surges of several kilovolts. The ESD limiting voltage for the “human model” is up to 15 kV in the package size 1206. The SG 73 P series in the new chip size of 0603 can handle a 1 ms pulse of up to 14 W. This is five times more power compared to KOA’s standard resistor series RK 73.
Additionally all sizes provide an improved average power rating, which is offered by the next larger size in standard resistor, e.g. 250 mW in 0805 inch doubles the standard power rating. Both series, SG73 P and SG73 S cover the resistive range from 1 W up to 1 MW. The whole range is available with tolerances down to 0.5 % and a standard temperature coefficient of ± 200 ppm/K.
