Amtech Inc, a leading supplier of solder products used in electronic assemblies, has introduced the LF-4300, the first RoHS-compliant lead-free solder paste with true multi-process capabilities, a single product that is described as ideal for no-clean applications which is also water washable. Compatible with lead-free, tin-lead, and high temperature alloys, this highly versatile and forgiving solder paste can be cleaned using standard aqueous cleaning systems without any saponification. LF-4300 is manufactured by Amtech utilizing a proprietary formula, including synthetic materials that deliver ideal printing characteristics, unparalleled lot-to-lot consistency and extremely long stencil life. The LF-4300 is also VOC and Halide-free, and is classified as REL0. When used as a No-Clean with either tin-lead and lead-free alloys, the flux residue remains clear and meets S.I.R. requirements as per IPC-TM-650.2.6.3.3.
The LF-4300 features a 12-hour stencil life and 24-hour abandonment time so PC board assemblers can change shifts or experience downtime without jeopardizing production yields. Amtech lead-free solder products have a lead content of <200 ppm guaranteed, which is in full compliance with the RoHS Directive. According to Leigh Gesick, Amtech’s Vice President of Operations, “LF-4300 solder paste was developed as a result of Amtech’s willingness to apply creative thinking to solve a customer’s problem. In this case, the customer required a lead-free solder paste for a small batch system that was water washable without saponification. This led to experiments with synthetic materials, which resulted in the discovery of a unique flux chemistry that is exceptionally versatile and compatible with all board finishes.”
