With a set of new controllers, SPEA increases the speed of its 4040 flying-probe tester by 40% – reportedly making it the fastest on the market. The controllers determine the movements of the flying probes in the X, Y and Z-directions. The probes achieve an acceleration of up to 2G. The Z-axis is freely programmable in regard to height and force – a precondition for the soft-landing function necessary when processing ceramics hybrids and other critical applications. All this translates into a much higher test speed. A further reduction in test time can be achieved with the Redufly software that increases throughput and enables the instrument to be used in high-volume production environments. Minimized test-program size is the core concept. The software performs an analysis of the test data and reduces the number of test procedures depending on the prevailing error rate, leaving out redundant steps. This enables the use of the flying prober as an in-line QA verification tool in high-volume processing setups previously left to bed-of-nail systems, which are reaching their limits with complex, high-density layouts. Higher throughput also translates into lower test costs for these applications.
