End-of-line assembly with flexibility
As a solution for the assembly of odd-from parts at the line end, IPTE developed the BAT HSP (high speed pick & place) cell, operating with high throughput and flexibility. This machine assembles more than 3600 components/hour, using a moving board and stationary feeders. Typically in EOL assembly, a board re-ceives connectors and leaded components, shieldings, etc. For finishing, housings and markings have to be added, and finally there is an electrical test of the completed product. For an efficient workflow, it is necessary that all these tasks are provided in a tact time of under 30 sec. Additionally, the batch sizes tend to minimize, with complexity growing at the same time. This equipment is feeding the parts from their standard delivery package such as reels with radial and axial passives, sticks or loose batches. The head picks the components from the feeder and places them in a pre-defined angle on the board position. Depending on the task, up to three placement heads can be installed in one single machine. By this, one platform can easily perform different processes in a variety of combinations. Alternatively, with one permanent setting, small batches can be efficiently produced without any additionally set-up. With three heads, for example, the first head can mount a snap-in connector, the second head will handle a radially terminated capacitor (including wire clinching), and the third head may press in a contact pin. Because of its modularity, the equipment can be upgraded later in the field. The board conveyor is SMEMA-compatible, to seamlessly support integration in an existing manufacturing line, and the small footprint is just 1.6sqm. In combination with other IPTE automation equipment, users can shape a variety of solutions.
