Power of experience

Interview with Jaime Benet, President & CEO of JBC Tools, Inc.
Power of experience

More than 80 years experience has placed JBC at the technological forefront of tools for soldering and rework operations in electronics. Innovation, efficiency and reliability are the key features of a wide range of products that have been designed to satisfy the most demanding requirements. The global organization of local offices and a distributor network spanning five continents enables the company to provide quick and efficient service. EPP Europe talked to Jaime Benet about the plans of the company.

Jaime, more than 80 years ago, your father founded JBC Tools. Did he anticipate the future growth in the electronics industry or did you start out in another sector?

My father started in the electric and electromechanical field more than 80 years ago, at which time; he could not have foreseen the growth in this field. Back then, no one could have thought that the future of soldering irons would be in the electronics industry.
You are now offering demos for your Compact CD Soldering Station to allow your customers to become acquainted with the product. What sparked this idea?
We offer demos, not only for our CD station, but for any system that our customers might need, though we consider the CD station as our entry product and suggest this as a first trial to our brand. We began offering the demos because we realized that every time our sales force showed the features of our products, they elicited a big wow factor from the potential customers. They were surprised by our products and this is why we think the best way to convince customers is to allow them to test the product.
The CD Soldering Station is said to provide tremendous cost savings. How is this accomplished?
Due to the CD Soldering Station’s superior heat recovery, heat loss is minimal and operating temperatures can be lower. By reducing the temperature, thus reducing oxidation, the cartridges last up to five times longer than other conventional stations. Production is increased because our tips reach the working temperatures within seconds.Additionally, with our wide range of cartridges, the most suitable tip can be selected to carry out different soldering jobs much quicker and more effectively.
What steps is JBC Tools currently taking to become a leader in the hand soldering and rework market?
Our main goal is innovation and to become known by the majority of professionals in the electronics industry. Our sales force is continually increasing to better reach the industry. Our sales personnel continue to work with our customers to understand what they need so we can develop products to better solve their soldering needs.
You recently introduced C245 Super Cartridges. How are the new cartridges able to achieve higher efficiency than comparable cartridges?
In our ongoing quest for innovation, we dedicated a section within our R&D department to optimizing the performance of specific cartridges used with the T245 hand piece. Our R&D team developed the new range of high thermal efficiency cartridges that allow the T245 hand piece station to supply the most power possible to the solder joint. This is achieved through redesigning tip geometries for optimal thermal transfer.
You recently appointed new representatives and service personnel in the Americas to provide enhanced service and support for your customers. Do you have plans to reinforce your service or expand into any other new territories?
Certainly, we are looking for new representatives and increasing our own sales force in order to increase our exposure in the market. Though we already have a presence worldwide, sales have no barriers nowadays, so we are open to all markets and opportunities where they may arise.
Developing perfect products is one of the main objectives of JBC Tools’ improvement and development program. Your R&D department has created the most innovative soldering technologies on the market. Do you have plans to introduce any new soldering technologies?
We will be exhibiting at Productronica in Munich, Germany. This is where we usually launch our new products as it is a very important meeting point for the electronics market. We have some very interesting innovative products being developed this year and hope to introduce them to you there.
