The wafer identification system WID LKx5E reader of Siemens Dematic can now easily be integrated via ethernet links into the production facilities of the semiconductor industry. Using this networking technology, ident readers can be controlled in the internal local area network (LAN), and the captured data be saved and made accessible to all users. The time required to detect the wafer identification code has been reduced by 30%. With Its patented illumination technology and writing and code recognition software, the equipment has reportedly become an industry standard. The controller queries the wafer ident before every process step. Remote access makes administration easier as all readers can be accessed from one point. Since a wafer passes through a multitude of different steps during production, it needs to be assured that the correct silicon is worked on. Reliable identification is indispensable for quality management, optimization and traceability, but the readability of wafers varies during these steps, and the reflective surface makes reading almost impossible for standard ident systems. The WID reader, especially developed for this purpose, features automated illumination control to ensure recognition. This tool can recognize all common labeling standards, such as OCR codes, data-matrix and barcodes, defined by SEMI but also application-specific formats. As it measures just 37x 70x110mm, integrating will seem easy.
