The British organization National Physical Laboratory (NPL) has pioneered government and industry-sponsored research in preparation for lead-free soldering. As the legislative enforcement approaches, NPL offers a comprehensive Centre of Excellence, an accessible resource for U.K. companies facing the imminent move to lead-free.
The research organization offers a range of services to aid industry in implementing lead-free including full guidance on the legislation position (implementation is 2006). This means: on-site lead-free check to determine specifically what a company needs to meet the standards; troubleshooting, evaluations and training are available as well as consultancy, training and test services. A wide range of test services can be called upon and all these facilities are backed by a web site packed with lead-free information.
