The Bluetooth special interest group (SIG) has validated the PTW60 from Rohde & Schwarz as the official protocol tester worldwide. The instrument is regarded as the reference test platform for all test houses and manufacturers. Previously, manufacturers only had to prove that their Bluetooth production equipment has been tested, but this will no longer be enough. Certification can now be obtained at test houses, which will be followed by a three-month transition phase from test case class B to class A. After that, all manufacturers must have their equipment tested by a certified test house, to ensure the necessary cross-product and cross-manufacturer interoperability of the Bluetooth standard. Uncertainty about this point had limited the use of the wireless standard in the past.
