The AT&S example: PCB business develops well

AT&S of Austria, claiming to be the biggest circuit board manufacturer in Europe and India and one of the world’s leading contractors, has once again accelerated in growth in the first quarter of the current financial year. With a euro 89.9m turnover (+15%) and an increase of 39% in the operating result, chairman of the board, Harald Sommerer, could present one of the best results in the company’s history. “There are several reasons for our strong turnover and EBIT growth. First, we have strong growth in the market for mobile phones. This is providing us with an exceptional workload. Second, our European strategy appears to be bearing fruit. Our competitors are having difficulties, and their customers are turning to us. Finally, the stronger US dollar has also improved our competitive position”. Based on this route and the customer forecasts, the management has also increased its forecast for the whole year. From what the executives can see today, growth in turnover will be at least 10% and earnings per share will amount to 1.2 euro. Uncoupling the Chinese renminbi from the dollar should be a further advantage because competitiveness of European sites will increase. At the same time, the corporation acquired the Indian PCB design firm ECAD, to extend the range of services in the value-added chain on the sub-continent.
