Siplace quality management focus on customer applications
The Siemens Electronics Assembly Systems Division (EA) makes sure that all its quality checks and tests of Siplace placement machines focus on customer applications, where product and process quality form an integrated entity. In its test labs, EA simulates typical customer environments and surroundings in order to test Siplace placement machines not only for functionality prior to volume production, but also for customer and industry-specific performance requirements and optimum line productivity. Herbert Hofmann, global head of quality management, underlines: “The driving forces for quality management are proximity to the customer and the right methodologies. With our Siplace Test Center we can create the required proximity, and the Six-Sigma philosophy supplies the appropriate methodologies”. In its labs, the group reproduces manufacturing environments of customers in various market segments. As an important part of this quality assurance system, placement machine prototypes, options and applications are then tested against these customer requirements. Only when it has successfully passed this test phase will the new equipment be released for volume production. To make the tests even more authentic, customers’ operating personnel perform them. The findings and results are then incorporated into the placement machines.
