Semicon Europa 2019 expands intelligent applications

Semicon Europa, the largest European event that links the entire supply chain for electronics design and manufacturing from innovation to application, will take place from November 12 to 15, 2019 at the Munich Exhibition Center parallel to productronica 2019. It offers exhibitors and visitors many synergies, and an even greater range of information through unique exchange opportunities. The exponential growth of the industry in the following „Smart „ industries will be presented: automotive, medical, design and fabless, Smart Manufacturing, MEMS and sensors, image processing, materials, and workforce development. Registration is open to visitors and exhibitors.

Europe‘s research and development centers, chip manufacturers, as well as material and equipment companies are strategically positioned in the global electronics value chain to drive the development and growth of Smart applications.

“Cooperation and investment in key segments of Smart applications, including medical technology and the automotive industry, in which continental Europe plays a key role, are crucial for continued innovation in the European semiconductor industry,” said Laith Altimime, President of SEMI Europe. “Semicon Europe is a leading platform in Europe where key players along the value chain come together to collaborate.”

To strengthen Europe‘s strategic leadership and drive the development of new products and technologies, this year SEMI has entered into partnerships with imec, CEA-Leti and Fraunhofer, three leading technology research and innovation centers. They have received additional support from Bosch, Infineon and Intel Ireland. For the first time in decades, all three European chip manufacturers have invested heavily in new 300 mm wafer factories to boost the digital economy.

Also at the beginning of this year, the German luxury car manufacturer, Audi AG, was the first automobile manufacturer (OEM) to join SEMI as a member, thus strengthening its orientation toward the automotive supply chain segments.

The Smart Transportation Forum as well as the Pavilion bring together key stakeholders along the automotive value chain to explore innovation opportunities in automotive electronics. The program is organized by SEMI Global Automotive Advisory Council (GAAC) and supported by SEMI Strategic Association Partner ESD (Electronic System Design).

Further highlights are:

  • Advanced Packaging Conference: 12–13 November 2019
  • 23rd Fab Management Forum: 11–12 November 2019
  • Strategic Materials Conference: 12–13 November 2019
  • Smart Transportation Forum: 13 November 2019

Inspiration Hub

The Inspiration Hub at Semicon Europe comprises the Smart Workforce and Smart MedTech programs. The Smart MedTech program shows how semiconductors enable technological innovations and solutions for global healthcare challenges. The Inspiration Hub will pay special attention to human resources development. Innovators, entrepreneurs, students, engineers and key stakeholders from Europe‘s semiconductor and medical ecosystems will come together to debate career opportunities. The Workforce Program aims to help the electronics industry overcome its critical workforce shortage and build its talent pipeline. Students will also learn how technological innovations can solve the global challenges in the semiconductor industry.

In addition to this program, the Accelerating Talents Program in cooperation with productronica and VDMA brings together international companies and start-ups looking for talent.

Smart Technology

The TechArena will showcase the latest trends and innovations in key areas such as smart design, disruptive computing, 3D printing, photonics, MEMS, 5G and environment, health and safety (EHS).
