Universal Instruments’ president Ian McEvoy (before with sister company DEK) has left to pursue new opportunities. Ian deSouza, before senior vice president of op- erations and systems, has been promo-ted to the top post. McEvoy and deSouza have worked closely together at Universal Instruments for the past 20 years and previously at other companies. As he served as deputy to McEvoy, deSouza’s responsibilities encompassed the supply chain, software development and manufacturing activities worldwide, and he was instrumental in implementing the corporation’s aggressive cost-down initiatives. He is considered the natural choice for this exchange. “I welcome the opportunity to take the reins from an old friend who has distinguished himself well in the role”, says deSouza. “Our customers will notice no difference, except our continuing progress, growth and commitment”. Ian McEvoy’s management capabilities are credited with pulling the corporation through the difficulties of the market downturn, streamlining the organization, driving down costs and bringing UIC back into profitability.
