More initiatives in the placement arena

With a number of initiatives, Universal Instruments obviously shows that its commitment to its global customer base is as strong as it was before the recession. In doing so, UIC has appointed the ISO9001-certified Silgal-Sociedade Internacional de Importacoes to handle its sales and support activities in Portugal. The company already represents princi-pals in the screen printing, soldering, inspection, handling and materials sectors. And in Italy, Selettra Srl will now distribute UIC’s products and augment its support services. The Milan-based company addresses the electronics manufacturing markets in Italy with particular focus on the country’s automotive industry, and the many subcontractors who service this sector. UIC’s services division and CeTaQ have reached an agreement to offer machine capability assessment services to surface-mount equipment users requiring independent capability measurement and verification. This provides customers with worldwide access to an independent and mobile metrology service as well as corresponding support from the UIC services team. CeTaQ has established itself as premier source for on-site mobile metrology services. This arrangement allows both companies to insure continuous exchange of technical data while jointly addressing the emerging inspection needs of the Asian, European and North American business community. UIC is now going to integrate the Embedded Process Verification (EPV) inspection technology from CyberOptics into its latest-generation component-placement systems, as a feature on its recently released Genesis and AdVantis platforms. “EPV is one of the most exciting innovations in this industry in recent times,” stated UIC president Ian McEvoy. “To achieve the challenging quality goal of less than 10 defects per million for SMT assembly, you have to verify each component placement. The EPV is the first system to enable this within the placement machine.”
