The well-known industry executive Jeroen L. Schmits, president of Vitronics Soltec since 1999, has moved from this position to assume the recently vacated top-management responsibility at Universal Instruments. No replacement for Schmits has been named yet. Both Vitronics Soltec and Universal are part of the multinational and globally acting industry consort Dover Corporation. Jeroen Schmits has more than 15 years of experience in the circuit-board assembly community. He served from 1989 to 1997 in sales and engineering management positions for Soltec, and from 1997 to 1999 was VP, Surface Mount/System Division at Universal headquarters in Binghamton, New York, USA. He was then appointed president of Vitronics Soltec in 1999 and led the company successfully through the industry’s downturn while simultaneously increasing its market share and position globally. Dutch citizen Schmits holds a degree in mechanical engineering and an MBA from the University of Rotterdam. Universal is a provider of circuit, semiconductor and backend-assembly technologies and equipment. Vitronics Soltec is a specialist in industrial soldering equipment and methods such as reflow, wave and selective technologies, headquartered in The Netherlands with regional HQs in the USA and Asia. This is now the third president of Universal Corp since Gerhard Meese handed over the reins to Ian McEvoy a couple of years ago. He was followed by former McEvoy deputy Ian deSouza last year, and now Jeroen Schmits has taken over.
