European trace days: “Traceability has only advantages”

  • “It is better to avoid mistakes in production than to trace back ‚corpses’”
  • “A MES solution is not a PC application, but a high availability server environment that must be built up.”
  • “The project must be given top priority to guarantee success.”
  • “For the production, traceability has only advantages”
These are just some of the statements made by speakers from automotive, electronics, and medical sectors during the iTAC European Trace Days 2007. For two days, manufacturers and partners reported on requirements and future perspectives of traceability technologies. They gave the participants an insight into the respective introduction scenarios of their enterprises and reported openly about problems and methods of resolution. Enterprises that wanted to meet the challenge of a MES (Manufacturing Execution System) introduction in future obtained valuable experience and tips.
Active traceability, active process interlock, zero-fault production, OPC UA, OEM standards, etc. – The symposium gave an overview of the most important terms and showed that enterprises can, thanks to traceability, increase performance and become more efficient and future-proof. “Traceability is the requirement for success in discrete manufacturing. These days, it is a necessity for survival,” summarized David Burger (CEO iTAC Software AG).
About 120 visitors used the opportunity to learn how commercially standardized MES systems can contribute to optimization and the securing of processes, and how they can yield definite competitive advantages, in particular in highly complex multi-version production.
