Datacon parts company with loss-making subsidiary in Berlin

In the future, Datacon will be focusing entirely on its core business – the development and manufacture of high-precision production machines for the microchip industry. The loss-making division responsible for specialized machine building, previously home to a staff of 50 from Datacon Eurotec in Berlin, will be spun off from the Datacon group and sold with immediate effect. This will be counteracted by the addition of the Integrated Process Solutions department to the Radfeld site. The associated expansion of the parent plant will create 15 to 20 additional jobs for highly-qualified staff.

The semiconductor market is calling increasingly for customized all-in-one solutions – moving away from standalone machines and toward “integrated process solutions”. Datacon is responding to this requirement by integrating the division responsible for customized solutions from its existing Berlin-based subsidiary Datacon Eurotec into the parent plant in Radfeld: Short channels on the premises and personal contact between the developers from the individual departments allow for fast, flexible and 100 % customer-oriented all-round solutions.
Datacon will part company with the rest of Datacon Eurotec GmbH, the loss-making special-machine-building division and is thus bringing its business in these marginal areas to an end in order to further boost its core competences in the fields of high-tech machine engineering and new technologies such as flip chip and non-contact data transfer, or RFID.
Helmut Rutterschmidt, President & CEO of Datacon Technology GmbH, comments: “Highly complex process integration which is specially tailored to the respective customers requires close collaboration within the company, without loss of communication. Datacon has therefore decided to concentrate on developing its entire product portfolio in Radfeld and to focus on its core competences. For our global customers this means even faster and more flexible solutions. In the course of this expansion, an additional 15 to 20 high-caliber jobs will be created in Tyrol. I am especially pleased with this linking of our corporate growth with the strengthening of our high-tech site in Radfeld. This step completes the strategic reorientation of the Datacon group.”
