Cookson sells divisions to quit equipment business

As part of a restructuring plan, Cookson Electronics, a division of Cookson group, is selling its equipment business along with MPM, Camalot, Electrovert and Accel, the former Speedline Technologies, just five years before introduced. This decision will not affect their material divisions, Alpha Metals, Fry, Enthone, Polyclad Laminates and SCS (Specialty Coating Systems). Cookson Electronics‘ Raymond P. Sharpe stated, “Although Speedline has had a history of technological leadership, the intensity of recent cycles and variability in the equipment marketplace has led us to conclude that it is in the best interest of our customers and shareholders to sell this business and focus our resources on our core business of developing and producing advanced materials for both the electronics and surface finishing industries. Our goal is to find a new owner focused on the equipment market and that is better suited to support the ongoing needs. Because Speedline is a market leader in printers, dispensers, wave soldering, reflow and cleaning equipment with more than 36,000 systems in the field, we believe that there is a great opportunity here for a dedicated investor.“ Listed on the London stock exchange, the over 200 year-old Cookson group is a $3.2bn company employing more than 18,000 people. Currently, three business divisions (electronics, ceramics and precious metals) in operation.
