Agilent Open gets compatible to NI

Agilent’s Open test-systems strategy is focused on easing system integration through standard hardware, software and connectivity solutions. It can take up to two weeks for an engineer to connect and configure test instrumentation within a system, before starting to program. This is an excessive amount of time. Agilent Open is designed to address this and other issues such as systems-ready instruments that are optimized for integration; software solutions that are truly open and allow multi-vendor system implementation; connectivity solutions that are based on standards such as USB and LAN. All this happens in concert with the LXI consortium for test integration. Agilent has launched an enhancement that supports a multi-vendor approach, including interfacing to NI-based systems and supporting LabVIEW and LabWindows. The latest revision 7.5 of VEE, the graphical programming environment, includes easy access to National Instruments‘ products. Customers currently using NI software can now seamlessly integrate Agilent I/O hardware. NI’s products appear as devices in VEE, to be accessed through an interface like a VXIplug&play driver, with function panels to simplify programming. It also includes menu-driven communications with Excel and .NET components. The software automatically detects instruments connected, configures the interfaces and verifies the connection, dramatically reducing the time taken to build a configuration.
