20 years of Viscom – from engineering firm to global player
Volker Pape (left) and Martin Heuser (right): we’re one of the leading suppliers in the field of assembly inspection
Viscom, specialist company for optical and X-ray inspection, is now 20 years young. When in October 1984 Volker Pape und Dr. Martin Heuser founded their garage-type firm in Hannover/Germany, they were hardly thinking of running a globally active business; instead, they had probably planned for a small specialist office for industrial image processing. They were one of the pioneers in these new technologies, at that time just something exotic, expensive and in case of Y-ray use on the shop floor almost a taboo. But things have changed dramatically, as we can see. The two-person commerce, based on strong engineering and entrepreneur spirit, became a renowned player in the international markets with apparently outstanding inspection systems, in view of their capabilities. (Worthwhile to note: the area around Hannover has in the meantime become the global Bermuda Triangle for X-ray inspection systems, since there are now more international players located over there.) Today, the company has large headquarters in Hannover, and further facilities in Europe, America and Asia, and now a staff of more than 200 people. Viscom claims to be one of the three leading suppliers in the field of assembly inspection worldwide. In addition to “leadership in technology and high reliability and quality” the company also sees its excellent expertise and support as the fundament for its success. From the very beginning, service was reportedly written in capital letters. Another reason for this achievement was and is continual technical innovation, often in joint and close collaboration with customers. With further development of existing inspection methods and fresh ideas, the company intends to continue with their impressive progress as a partner for all automated optical and X-ray inspection tasks.
