Ultrasonic atomization technology specialist Sono-Tek Corporation has announced the development of an updated system for depositing uniform coatings using ultrasonic spray in a fully inert nitrogen environment. “The ExactaCoat OP3 Inert Glovebox system integrates Sono-Tek’s OP3 3-axis spray platform with a full atmospheric controlled glovebox featuring integrated heat plate, two antechambers, chamber filtration system and integrated liquid delivery,” the company said.

“This system is used for depositing functional nanolayers in advanced battery applications, or other applications requiring a fully inert environment. Advantages to Sono-Tek’s system compared to other spray processes such as vapor deposition for these applications include full control of process variables at a fraction of the cost of sputtering and CVD for R&D and low volume manufacturing.

“Ultrasonic spray applications such as advanced battery device coatings are increasing as manufacturers continue research and development of alternative energy devices and begin implementing EV automotive incentives.”

“Sono-Tek has been at the forefront of many advanced energy research projects over the course of the last decade, from solar cells and fuel cells to novel nanomaterials research,” said Bennett Bruntil, VP, Sono-Tek’s VP of Sales & Marketing. “We are able to offer unique cost savings and process advantages in the development of new technologies using a highly controllable and scalable coating process. Our systems have enabled a number of new process developments over the years and this system continues that trajectory for our business.”
