Smaller sizes mean bigger savings

Hastings-based Contract Electronics Manufacturer, Wilson Process Systems (WPS), is delighted with the recent introduction by Anglia of their “Ready Reel” service and embraces the concept of a broad range of passive and discreet devices being available in reduced quantities. With Ready Reel, manufacturers can run shorter production quantities with greater efficiency and reduce the likelihood of waste. The process is especially suited to prototype and New Product Introduction (NPI) runs. It supplies smaller quantities of components on mini reels, giving manufacturers the flexibility to match the inventory to low volume batches, which are typical of prototype and pre-production runs. By permitting more efficient short production runs whilst still providing full production traceability that clients demand. This improved control over component inventory also reduces the risk of exposure to additional end-of-run costs incurred where large quantities of unused components remain.

Steve Cooke, Sales Manager at the company, comments: “The availability of smaller quantities on mini reels helps us deliver a more competitive NPI service to our customers. With many new jobs being introduced, smaller reels help to reduce the cost to clients for prototyping. Mini reels also allow us to be more strategic with our inventory by holding selective quantities of a broader range of devices on Ready Reels; this has allowed us to optimise one of our high speed SMT lines specifically to improve lead-times for our customers.” The production teams of the company see Ready Reels as pivotal in allowing a more agile prototyping service without impacting on the company’s highly competitive UK volume production assembly services.
