When replacing windshields, safety is all-important for auto repair workshops. The windshield today makes a key contribution to the structural integrity of the vehicle frame. In an accident it absorbs part of the impact energy and additionally supports trouble-free functioning of the airbags. To ensure that these functions will be reliably fulfilled even shortly after replacement glazing, the use of a high-performance windshield adhesive is an absolute must. For a secure bond that satisfies even the toughest European safety standards, Henkel presents the next generation of the proven Terostat 8597 product series. Independent specialists from an authorized test institute and from TÜV Rheinland have subjected the latest version to extensive tests in simulated crash situations. Terostat 8597 HMLC is the very first one-component windshield replacement adhesive to have passed the official Euro NCAP head-on crash test in which a vehicle traveling at 64 km/h collides head-on with an 40-percent offset obstacle. Even under maximum loading and after only a short drive-away time, the windshield bond stays intact and ensures optimal occupant protection. As early as four hours after windshield replacement, the adhesive meets the five-star rating of Euro NCAP. When replacing windshields, repair workshops can now provide their customers with a standard of safety that is in all ways equal to that of the original OEM quality. The adhesive for all vehicle types thus satisfies even the most stringent OEM specifications. In addition, the new direct glazing adhesive continues, of course, to offer all the accustomed processing characteristics of this successful product series. The single-component system is applied in its cold state, using any common cartridge gun, with an open time of 20 minutes for windshield installation. Thanks to the adhesive’s outstanding stability and non-stringing application, it ensures both neat processing and the possibility of subsequent windshield repositioning. With a drive-away time of only four hours, the bond already satisfies the tough Euro NCAP safety standard, while the U.S. FMVSS standard is fulfilled after just one hour.
