Robert Pfahl receives EEG 2008+ Award
Dr. Robert C. Pfahl Jr., Vice president of global operations for the International Electronics Manufacturing Initiative (iNEMI), was presented an Electronics Goes Green 2008+ Award at the EGG 2008+ conference in Berlin. Pfahl received the award “for his commitment to environmental protection and inspiring ideas concerning sustainable development in technology and business solutions.” The EGG 2008+ conference, said to be the largest international conference for sustainable electronics, was hosted by the Fraunhofer Institute for Reliability and Microintegration IZM, in cooperation with the Technical University Berlin. “Bob has a long history of managing environmental issues within the electronics industry, and his guidance in this and other areas is a huge asset to iNEMI and our members,” said Jim McElroy, CEO of iNEMI. “He is adept at framing challenges in a way that relates to both business goals and environmental performance so that everyone can understand and benefit.” Prior to joining iNEMI in 2002, Pfahl was Director of International and Environmental Research and Development for Motorola Labs. He led Motorola’s Environmental Technology R&D and Advanced Technology R&D labs in China and Germany.

In 2004, Pfahl participated in the pioneering study by the National Research Council, “The Greening of Industrial Ecosystems.” In 2005, he received the Electronics Manufacturing Technology Award from the IEEE Components, Packaging and Manufacturing Technology Society (CPMT).
In making the award, CPMT lauded him for developing new manufacturing processes, reducing the environmental impact on electronics manufacturing processes and fostering collaboration within the manufacturing technology community. Pfahl was also a recipient of the 1991 United States EPA Stratospheric Ozone Protection Award in recognition of his efforts to eliminate the use of CFCs in the electronics industry.
