Hermetic Switch, Inc., a privately held company that designs, develops and manufactures reed switches, proximity sensors and other switch technologies, recently announced an expansion in its magnet product offerings.
Hermetic’s magnet product line expansion comes as a result of increased demand for additional options from customers in reed switch applications, as well as from other magnet applications in electronics, research, scientific and educational sectors.
The company now offers a wider range of permanent magnets in terms of material of construction, size, shape and strength. Offerings range from tiny button magnets to more substantive rare earth magnets. Materials of construction include cast nickel alloys, ceramics, and neodymium. In terms of size and shape, twelve sizes of square shaped magnets and twelve sizes of cylindrical shaped magnets are now available. Magnet strengths range from 250 to 1100 gauss. Hermetic can customize the specific strength of the magnet within the range of 200 to 1500 gauss, if required for a particular application.
Reed switches require no electric power source or battery to operate. This feature makes reed switches the preferred switch technology chosen by design engineers when power conservation is critical for a particular device or product development.
