Laser machine redesigned with increased marking speed

Adapted options and features for more precision
Laser machine redesigned with increased marking speed

The Insignum 4000 laser flips printed circuit boards in 1.5 seconds, which makes it 50% faster than its predecessor. Moreover, the marking process is now faster due to the implementation of improved linear technology. Positions on the printed circuit board can be processed within one second. The tried-and-tested „Optimap“ option reduces cycle times even further. This option makes it possible to label and verify multiple marking positions in a single process step. The marking field is optimally utilized, which reduces travel motion.

Full precision on any substrate

Printed circuit boards are as diverse as their fields of application. Thanks to RGB lighting, which can be integrated as an option, this laser easily overcomes the challenges associated with this. The various lighting possibilities allow fiducials and codes to be reliably detected on printed circuit boards of different colors.

The „trial and check“ option enables test markings on printed circuit boards. Because different manufacturers use different solder masks, different laser parameters are required in order to mark the substrate. As a result, the first printed circuit board of a new batch is initially marked using varying parameters. The system detects the best result automatically and applies the determined settings to the entire batch. This is an additional step toward increasing process reliability. Printed circuit boards feature marking placement possibilities of all different sizes.

The laser attains a positioning accuracy of +/- 150μm@5Sigma, providing a high degree of marking precision on even the smallest areas. With the new redesign, printed circuit boards measuring 508 mm × 508 mm can now be processed without modifying the length of the system.

Setup tasks at your fingertips

The user-friendly machine interface, Simplex, has come standard with all Insignum 4000 laser machines since mid-year. Setup mode has been automated in part and improved, so that machine setup requires less time. The interface provides the operator with a guide for calibration, among other things. Action sequences are displayed and described directly, which facilitates straightforward calibration that can be completed in no time.

Automated fiducial detection can further simplify the setup process. The „Offline Programming Tool“ enables the programming of laser marking systems without the need for machine downtime. The „Product Pool“ software links up all Insignum machines used in production, which enables the created program to be used on all of the other systems.
