Impressions from the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona

More than 55,000 visitors attended the three-day Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, making this year’s event the largest yet. The Congress hosted 1,300 exhibitors with approximately 29,000 square meters of exhibition space and 30,000 square meters of hospitality area. All the major players of the industry where present in the show. Over 2,700 international print, web and broadcast media were reporting on the Congress, and the event made headlines across the globe.

Mobile advertising and commercial opportunities are the hot topics and many of the top players are focusing on this.
Nokia’s initiative has created a Carrier Grade Media network that scales mobile advertising for the operator community. This could help to overcome the fragmented and local advertising offerings for up to 2.7 billion mobile devices. “In a world where it’s increasingly difficult for brands to forge relationships with consumers,” says Floris Van-De-Klashorst of Nokia, “the mobile internet presents a great opportunity, and operators have the data to offer brands highly relevant, brand-save advertising.”
Operators like China Mobile announced to introduce several initiatives to for example reduce their electricity usages. The key aim is to become an environmental friendly company. To achieve these goals operators team up with the network equipment manufacturers like Nokia Siemens Networks, Ericsson, Alcatel-Lucent, Huawei and others. Not to forget the handling of old mobile phones and old batteries. Nokia’s CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo states: “Something has to change, we must move to a more sustainable model including recycling and lower power usage.”
Elcoteq did successfully represent the future of the contract manufacturing development within the Communication Technology Industry. The EMS provider’s airy booth was a focal point for lively discussions and networking.
