Collaboration to improve the two part conformal coating process

Global manufacturer and supplier of conformal coating and precision dispensing systems, PVA (Precision Valve & Automation, Inc.), hosted electro-chemicals manufacturer, Electrolube for a week in April. During the visit, the team from Electrolube worked exclusively with Shanne Plasse and Matthew Lilla of the company’s applications lab to improve the performance of Electrolube’s two part conformal coatings. Phil Kinner, Global Business/Technical Director, Coatings Division at Electrolube states, “Electrolube’s core business is the development of innovative circuit protection materials and associated products, but we are always aware that their ultimate success depends upon those all-important downstream processes – particularly dispensing. This recent collaborative exercise with PVA has proven highly effective and reinforced the importance of not just the materials, but the methods of applying them.”

Using the company’s VPK-2K volumetric pump, along with the collaboration of Electrolube, they were able to test a new process to apply the conformal coating at a much lower thickness with faster rates than generally recommended for the 2K material. A solution of a simple valve block was able to supply enough heat to enable a thin film application. It also was able to improve the material edge definition and provide better spray control.
Ultimately, Electrolube’s visit to the company was a great success and they look forward to more future collaborations.
