Autotronik-SMT’s low-cost model BS 390 was designed for placement operations of small and middle-sized production runs. Three versions are available which are different in placement rates, number of feeder units or PCB size. All models and the feeder units of the German company are compatible with each other, assuring reliability as well as easy maintenance. By using non-tactile linear encoders in combination with servomotors, high repeatability will be achieved (±0.03mm). The driver-encoder system, operating in closed-loop configuration, features a long life cycle. The optical-based vision-on-the-fly system, mounted on the placement head, is centering most of the surface-mount components such as 0201, SOIC, PLCC, QFP, BGA as well as odd-form parts within ±0,3mm. Besides the standard registration marks, square-sized SMD pads or plated-through holes can also be used. A dispensing head for adhesives and solder paste is available as an option; it can be applied for the quick assembly of smaller board batches without using printing stencils, to also dispense on QFP pads. Component feeding can be provided by reels, in sticks or even as loose parts. In addition to the data input by teach-in, there is a universal CAD converter available, handling the direct transfer of CAD-generated placement information into programs. Applying a 3-stage conveyor system, the placement machine can also work in-line. A remote service kit allows for control by the internet, which includes programming, calibration and service actions straight from the company’s service center.
