Setting standards in fume extraction
OK International’s multi-user MFX-2200 fume-extraction system can support up to eight assembly workplaces, benchtop soldering equipment, or can remove gases from exhaust cabinets. An improvement of 50% in airflow, 300% increase in HEPA filter size and a 600% boost in carbon gas filter capacity are just three of the key benefits. For electronics applications, a combined filtration model features pre, HEPA (99.97% efficient @ 0.3µm) and gas filters. For specific applications, such as removing solvent vapors from bonding and underfill operations, a gas-filtration model is available featuring a prefilter and 11kg high-capacity activated carbon cartridge. The system is 450mm wide, 670mm tall and 525mm deep, and can accept either a 457mm x 406mm x 120mm HEPA or activated-carbon filter. Therefore, the MFX-2200 can process more fumes, for substantially longer periods before requiring a filter change, thus reducing maintenance requirements and workplace disruption. System pressure has a significant impact on filter replacement intervals. In systems with low suction force, airflow can start to fall long before the filter media is fully saturated, simply because the fan lacks the power to pull the air through the partially blocked media. Systems with a strong suction force have the power to maintain airflow as the filter blocks, lengthening replacement intervals and reducing costs. Reportedly, the system causes minimal noise generation, has castors as standard and both analog and digital control options. Traditionally, connecting several workplaces to one filter unit required a large number of accessories. Various hose or duct diameters with fittings and adapters had to be joined together. This gear uses only one hose size and one hose splitter. Such a low-cost approach to installing fume-extraction pipe networks is particularly important in manufacturing facilities, where it is regularly needed to reconfigure. It is claimed that, compared with previous systems, the MFX-2200 could yield savings of up to 50%.
