For upcoming lead-free technology, manufacturers can get help from IPC who has published Revision D of the industry’s most popular standards, IPC-A-610 (Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies) and J-STD-001 (Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies) which now include Pb-free requirements. Since the EU directive will soon be official, the revision is now badly needed. These globally used documents cover all aspects of acceptability. There were quite a few additions, clarifications and some changes from revision C to make the transition to revision D easy. Likewise, the new revision J-STD-001D covers lead-free processing.
