Placement with rates of up to 300,000 cph

Fuji’s scalable placement platform NXT is said to deliver the lowest cost per placed component, and can be configured in relation to different assembly and product-mix requirements. Depending on configuration, the machine provides a throughput of 10,000 up to 300,000 cph, where the placing accuracy is defined by ±0.04 mm@3-sigma for passive parts and ±0.025 mm@3-sigma for leaded components. The size of parts reaches from tiny 0201 up to large connectors of 74 x 74 mm or 32 x 160 mm. Feeding is done by different mechanisms such as tape reels, stick feeders, trays and many others. In total, a full-blown machine will feature up to 720 feeder slots for 8 mm width. Reportedly, product changeover and maintenance are easy to accomplish: a placement head can be exchanged even by inexperienced operators within 2 minutes, and individual placement models are easily pulled out from a machine configuration for repair off-line. This way, standstills are drastically reduced. Other features are single or double conveyor board transport as well as intuitive and simple operation. And, according to the company, even two different products can be manufactured simultaneously on the same machine without difficulties. It seems possible to use existing floor space in production lines more efficiently, raising manufacture capacity by a factor of up to three.
