Assembleon’s Opal-XII is an addition to its GEM range of SMD placement machines, providing a level of functionality which is reportedly exceptional at its price level. Start-up operations, smaller board assemblers SMT and other manufacturers requiring competitively priced machines with high feeder count and the capability placing a wide range of component types, can benefit from this development. Enabling manufacturers to satisfy all their component placement requirements with a single machine, the placer accommodates up to 100 x 8 mm tape feeders, and delivers a complete component handling technology through different vision systems. With a 45 mm line-array camera as standard and optional area-CCD cameras, it can place components from 0201 to 45 x 45 mm BGA, flip-chip, CSP, connector and odd-form parts. Accuracy is up to ±40 µm at 3-sigma, and maximum throughput 11.5 kcph. Other important features are ease of use and expandability. The machine uses Windows NT for networking and centralized computing, and can be expanded with additional placement heads for more speed, or extended tray handling for higher flexibility. To keep pace with growing production demand, a second machine can be configured in line, using the same network database. Alternatively, other machines from the GEM-X range can be combined to provide volume and application flexibility.
