The LPKF LaserScalpel is obviously the first laser-based PCB rework tool that removes copper bridges from boards with very fine structures. The scalpel eliminates copper and other metal traces more accurately than mechanical tools such as scalpel and needle. It is easy to operate, requiring no technical knowledge or programming. Precise laser pulses take away copper bridges only micrometers in size between structures as close as 50µm apart, without damaging or burning the substrate. The operator uses a joystick and a microscope to position the laser over the rework area, then a laser pulse is released with a foot switch. For large bridges, a series of pulses can be released while the laser is continually moved with the joystick. The Class 1 laser tool can be safely operated in any environment. A filtration unit removes particles from the board material during laser processing.
