The Optodyne UV adhesives of Daikin are designed for bonding of optical fibers (quartz to quartz or quartz to BK-7) and of photo-conductive wave path cladding. Reportedly, these adhesives are easy to use and give exceptional performance in terms of refractive index range (1.45 to 1.51) and bond strength. They bring together the benefits of fluorinated chemistry with the best of acrylic and epoxy technology. All materials are single-component systems with long pot life, low viscosity and fast UV curing. They can be dispensed cleanly from original packaging, with no outgassing or post curing. The fluorine contributes excellent light transmission with remarkable bond strength and durability, particularly in hot and humid environments. After 1000 hours of testing (at 85 °C/85 % r. h.), the bonds were still stronger than the optical fibers and components to which they were attached.
