Cookson Electronics‘ enhanced multi-piston pump is a highly repeatable, linear positive displacement tool that can be mounted, for example, on the Camalot XyflexPro DLM (dual-lane multitasking) dispenser. The pump provides repeatable precision of 1 % at 3-Sigma with no need for weight scale correction by digital control. The tool does not require a recharge step, allowing for maximum throughput regardless of dispense volume. In addition, carbide inserts tolerate the use of abrasive encapsulants and underfill materials. The pump features a quick-disconnect fitting for easy attachment/detachment, allowing a production line to resume operation in just a few minutes, and parts can be cleaned off-line to avoid delay. Part count has been reduced by 65 %, and reportedly consumable costs have been cut by 70 %. Tests have revealed that an operator can disassemble and clean this unit, and return it to service, in less than 10 minutes. In addition to reduced downtime, the pump can dispense volumes down to less than 1 mg, making it ideally suited for encapsulation, CSP and flip-chip underfill applications.
