Desktop-based inspection of board assemblies is the task for which the Omron AOI-machine VT-RNS-pt was developed. Designed for off-line inspection, the equipment is said to be an ideal solution for smaller manufacturing environments running low-volume or prototype assembly lines. The inspection algorithms used in the machine are identical to the company’s automated in-line machine. Therefore, this AOI-machine uses the same three-color highlight system and the same 3-CCD camera as the bigger version. This is allowing to capture three times the data resulting in highly robust inspection results. Other features include color enhancing capability, auto-teaching modes, integrated graphical user interface and logic customization. Omron’s patented color highlight system is reportedly now standard across the entire product range and utilizes a light-emitting diode (LED) configuration to provide with 3D-information from a 2D-image. The VT-RNS range features a lens to deliver imaging and inspection performance with resolutions down to 10 microns.
