Conformal coatings are specially formulated lacquers designed to protect components and board assemblies from the environmental impact. This it to improve and extend working life of the equipment and ensures reliability and performance. These coatings ‘conform’ to the contours of the board and its components creating a thin protective layer (25 to 50µm) which is both lightweight and flexible. They safeguard circuitry from hazards such as chemicals (fuels, coolants, etc.), vibration, moisture, salt spray, humidity and high temperature. This can prevent corrosion, mould growth and current leakages which may otherwise result in failures. Electrolube is among the global experts in the formulation and application of conformal coatings designed to meet international approvals (including European and American MIL specs). The range of products available to date comprises acrylics, silicones, polyurethanes and water-based coatings, bearing UL, MIL and DEF STAN approval and most utilize a UV trace to aid inspection.
