All-purpose generator for production

The vector signal generator R&S SMJ100A from Rohde & Schwarz is suitable for use in development as well as production. Its high signal quality, short frequency and level setting times and easy operation ensures fast and reliable measurements. The instrument features a flexible baseband, providing a wide range of real-time signal forms or replays precalculated waves. With the 100kHz to 3GHz (or 100kHz to 6GHz) frequency option, it covers virtually all bands that are important in digital RF transmission. The optional baseband generator can handle a large number of digital stan- dards such as, for example, GSM/EDGE, 3 GPP FDD including HSDPA, CDMA2000, WLAN IEEE 802.11a/ b/g as well as WiMAX. Furthermore, simulation software and Matlab are supported by the internal arbitrary waveform generator which offers sequences up to 64 Msamples in length. The low SSB phase noise of –129dBc (at 20kHz carrier offset and 1GHz frequency) documents a high signal quality. As speed is crucial, primarily in production, the instrument provides short settling times of less than 5ms, which are reduced to 450µs in list mode. The generator is equipped with an easy-to-operate GUI. The color display (800 x 600 pixels) shows the signal flow by means of a block diagram, where each functional unit is assigned a separate block. Menu-guided operation also utilizes these graphical possibilities. Additional interfaces such as IEC-Bus/IEEE 488.2, USB or Lan interface (100BaseT) increase versatility even more.
