The Challenge is to Challenge the Competition and not the Problems
Market analysts pronounce modest growth in the electronic industry for this year. Modesty is a noble personally trait – it may be advantageous in human relations, but it´s less gainful in the economical domain. If companies want to conquer markets, have sturdy, filled order books, make profits and finally create jobs, modesty is a trait for a loser.

Avoiding losing even this modest growth in a strong competitive market electronic industry creates pressure to manufacture with high productivity. Therefore, equipment, machines and systems have to continuously grow in sophistication. Following this demand, EPP Europe´s goal is to explain how to face and realize it.
Going into the state-of-the-art of technology dept., readers will begin to get an impression of production optimization. This is absolutely indispensable looking at short-term change of priorities, rush jobs, and small production volumes which are the norm in Europe’s electronics manufacturing. The strategy is profitable: flexible SMD placement and parallel setup. It offers savings potential and can reduce machine downtime between two jobs; more about on page 28.
High optimization meets high productivity: This is achieved through ultrasonic gold to gold interconnect precision bonding. The procedure has explicit advantages. It requires fewer manufacturing steps and allows reduction in dies sizes by up to 70 per cent. Look how gold to gold precision bonding is capable of improving packaging costs on page 48 with Fast Rate in Semiconductor Packaging.
If high optimization meets high productivity and both join high technology via high-speed chip placement, as presented on page 16, the way is free for competitive production. This is more indispensable than ever for Europe in a world of emerging and low prized manufacturing countries.
There is much to consider driving up production volumes, challenging manufacturing with the creation of value and forcing a profitable return on investment. As the new head of EPP Europe, I will do my very best to investigate the challenges and solutions in electronic production which our readers need to succeed in their domain. Feel welcome, I think we are doing a good job.
