Tecnomatix, provider of manufacturing process management (MPM) software solutions, will acquire Teradyne’s CIMBridge CAD/CAM optimization software suite. The acquisition expands the alliance between Teradyne and Tecnomatix, which began in 1994. It seems that the CIMBridge tool set from GenRad, a firm which was taken over by Teradyne fall of last year, wasn’t the product of choice in the company’s portfolio that is focused on ATE and as such is a leading supplier. Interestingly, GR has acquired this software or its predecessor products even years before when they took over the US-based company Mitron, with its CIM (computer integrated manufacturing) software, a successful competitor of Unicam. Tecnomatix Unicam will incorporate CIMBridge solutions into its MPM product line, and has been committed to providing the CIMBridge installed base with solutions that include the latest in software development, while guaranteeinga seamless migration path to itsbest-in-class assembly technology. Tecnomatix will increase its market share and technology base through the addition of the CIMBridge intellectual property, installed customer base and R&D team.
”We looked at the assembly landscape and clearly understood the leadership position of Tecnomatix Unicam,” said John Casey, president of Teradyne’s Assembly Test Division. ”The acquisition allows both companies to continue to focus on core strengths as well as protect our mutual customers’ investment in hardware and software”. ”CIMBridge is an excellent addition to the Tecnomatix eMPower MPM solutions suite,” said Israel Levy, CEO of Unicam. ”With more than 1000 mutual customers, the CIMBridge acquisition is a natural progression for the Teradyne-Tecnomatix alliance, allowing both companies to focus on core strengths”. The companies will begin implementing a transition plan that will enable Unicam to assume full responsibility for the CIMBridge support channels. The terms of the transaction, of course, were not disclosed.
