Ekra has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Speedline/Cookson Electronics, because of its inspection technology rights. As global supplier for stencil printers, the company claimed to posses protected expertise, relating to material deposi-tion in electronics manufacturing. Speedline, and its prior entity MPM, have been importing and selling equipment having features or options which are reportedly covered by those patents. In this suit, the company seeks damages for this infringement of its patents as well as an injunction prohibiting further sale of infringing products in Germany. Notably in this case is the fact that Ekra’s executive VP, Roland Heynen, was the responsible manager for a few years who had very successfully brought MPM printers into the European market.
