Due to their dimensions, conventional machines with the ability to mount radial and axial components need a lot of space. This circumstance is notably reflected in the manufacturing expenses. Programming, as well as feeding these components, is not simple. The programming of the expensive and complex feeders needs a lot of time. Other machine manufacturers often solve this problem in a pedestrian yet expensive way. Not Juki: The effortless component programming, as well as the easy machine operation, is definitively an outstanding feature of the JM-10. Machine compatibility also has to be considered. The feeders are completely compatible with all machine types of the company. And last, but not least, with a footprint of only 1.5m, the system needs no more space than a hand mounting station.
For many years, the company has utilized the long time field-tested, highly accurate and most reliable laser centering for THT component assembly. This means component programming is easier and, thanks to the higher resolution, the component centering is more accurate than with vision or mechanical centering. In addition, the components do not experience any mechanical wear. This positively influences the reliability of the end product. During the component measurement, not only is the body dimension checked, but also every single lead is inspected. Twisted leads, which wouldn’t go through the insertion contact, are immediately recognized by the system and the affected component is not selected for assembly at all.
For bulk components, the company provides highly reliable bowl feeders. Thanks to their considerable barrel capacity, the intervals between the component refilling are much longer than with other methods. Therefore, the operators don’t get into a supply shortfall when a multiplicity of machines is in use. The vibrating bowl feeder has capacity for up to six different components. Therefore, each machine can place a maximum of twelve different bulk components. For taped components, radial feeders are available. They cut the leads and present the component afterwards ready to pick. Between seven and ten feeders can be set either at the front or the rear of the machine dependent upon what type of radial feeder is set on the JM-10.
This multitask platform can even reliably handle a mix of THT and SMT components. With this machine, both technologies can be realized. For QFPs, which aren’t measurable by laser, the system provides the possibility of vision centering with a 54mm or 27mm view field. The avenues of the machine are so versatile that, with few modifications, its use can enormously reduce the cost for THT assembly.
