Olympus digital camera systems, the DP12 and DP50, are dedicated to microscope-mounted operation, while another three, the Camedia E-10 and E-20, as well as the C-4040 can be used as easily by hand as mounted on microscope. These digital cameras feature increased resolution, control features, and ease of use. The E-10 and E-20 have 4.0 and 5.0 megapixel CCDs. The C-4040Zoom has a 4.1 megapixel CCD. The super-bright F1.8/F2.6 lens with 3x optical zoom gives clear images. The Camedia cameras are fitted to a microscope with a C-mount adapter. A compact camera, the DP12, is operated from a rugged keypad and tilting 3.5-in screen, with all controls near the operator’s hand. The camera is attached via C-mount with no intermediate optics, so there will be no distortion and vignetting occur. The DP50 delivers a physical resolution of 5.8m pixels. A color algorithm helps to produce images of a quality to rivaling that of a conventional 35mm camera. Peltier cooling reduces noise and ensures clear and accurate color images. Live images are displayed at a refresh rate of up to 16 frames/s.
