Universal has enhanced its Dimensions manufacturing automation software suite, by adding data management features that allow users to maintain a common component database for GSM platform and HSP placement machines, to control the part definitions available at each machine. It’s now easier to use and maintain the large quantities of data in high-throughput production, and can be modified through the same tool. The program manages component changes by detecting modifications to the machine component database. And it supports automatic replication of the machine component database, to ensure that the latest approved definitions are in use. To simplify pattern programming, the software includes definitions for more than 1,000 parts which could be exported to dimensions programming and optimization software (DPO) or a tool such as Unicam, Valor, Circuitcam, GenRad, etc. The DPO module provides one point of data entry, a common interface across machine types, and a consistent process to generate production and setup data, to make line balancing and optimization easier and faster. DPO also interfaces with the Dimensions database to extract component data, thereby reducing redundant entry. The software allows to instantly highlight production bottlenecks, optimize throughput, capture histories and performance data and streamline product introduction. The suite includes a monitoring module which acts as a single point of storage, retrieval and analysis of machine management data. It offers web-based browsing, component traceability, remote notification, performance monitoring, serves as an internet window to the shop floor, and allows data to be integrated into an ERP system.
