Fremont (CA)-based semiconductor test specialist Credence has acquired all assets of SZ Testsysteme for a total of $4.7m. This automatic test equipment (ATE) portfolio is primarily focused on the analog, power, automotive and communications markets. The newly formed Credence-SZ division will continue to develop, manufacture and support the systems from the facility in Amerang/Germany. Credence will integrate all sales, service and applications support into its worldwide network. Credence’s Graham J. Siddall pointed out that „historically our strength and expertise have been in the mixed-signal test market, whereas SZ’s focus has been primarily in the automotive test sector – a sector we believe will demonstrate strong, steady growth over the next five years“. This cooperation is seen as a valuable complement. „By combining SZ and Credence test systems, we now extend our range of mixed-signal solutions to address a larger worldwide customer base“. A partnering or acquisition with or of SZ respectively, heavily suffering from especially naïve forecastings and bad risk management, was checked by more ATE companies. One of them was Advantest.
